History: |
Emanuel P. Cronquist was the builder and original owner of the house. He came to the Red Deer District in 1892 from Sweden. In 1901 he moved to Red Deer and built his residence. The house was a majestic figure, placed on top of a hill overlooking the City. It remained in the Cronquist family until the 1970's. In 1978, the house was moved to its present location, near Great Chief Park and restored. It now serves as the headquarters for the Red Deer Folk Festival. The street that runs in front of the former location of the Cronquist house (43 Street) is called Cronquist Drive. A business area near there is called Cronquist Business Park. This house was designed from a photo in a magazine. Sandstone from a quarry 2 miles down river. Brick from Red Deer Brick Company. |
